What is Puff Puff?
Most West African countries are familiar with the popular street food Puff-Puff, which is known by different names depending on the country. Ghanaians call it Bofrot (togbei), Cameroonians and Nigerians call it Puff-Puff (Puff) or beignet in French. The basic ingredient consists of flour, sugar, yeast, water, salt, and oil for deep frying. Puff puff is a deep-fried dough. Puff puff is an African classic, usually sold in street-side shops. Many countries around the world have their own version of fried dough. In Nigeria, it’s puff puff, a yeast-based fried dough that, as its name suggests, puffs up as it fries. The golden, bite-sized spheres have a soft, fluffy interior and a slightly crisp exterior. They’re a popular street food, as well as one of our staple small chops, or finger foods. At many parties, you’ll be served a variety of small chops like puff puff, samosas, and spring rolls to give you something to snack on. They are made from yeast dough, shaped into balls, and deep-fried until golden brown. It has a doughnut-like texture but is slightly chewier. It is a very common snack eaten by so many countries but with different names and a little bit of variation in the mode of preparation.
Puff-puff is usually eaten for breakfast, as a snack, or as a side dish. Regardless of when you eat them. They are enjoyable with or without a side dish. The beauty about puff puffs is that can eat them sweet or savory. it’s a great snack, appetizer, or dessert.
